Palliative Care: From Global to Local Needs

Abstract Palliative care (PC) is a comprehensive approach that focuses on improving the quality of life patients and families face fatal diseases by optimal minimization suffering. Seventy-eight percent who benefit from palliative support live in low-and-middle-income countries, where access to these services limited. Six are below age 15. The aim this study review briefly history PC its global challenges indicate impact barriers Dominican Republic. A literature PubMed analysis globally remark Republic local program. Some identifiable limited authorities health systems, discomfort healthcare staff providing PC, lack knowledge, as well experience, team support. Not only do countries challenges, but also there an urgency integration different systems improve life. This was experienced when first program started 2012. Currently, efforts being made increase make it accessible more families.
